First, it will be best if you know the difference of the two speeches. An informative speech is one that never uses the word I; however, you will see a lot of visual aids that show facts and statistics. Also, opinions are never used in an informative speech. However, in a persuasive speech opinions are used throughout. In fact, a persuasive speech is highlighted by the passion that the speaker shows for the subject.
The most important thing you will need to know before you decide which type of speech to give is your audience. If you are giving a speech to a political rally you will want to give your opinion on subjects as your audience is there to find out about you. If you are going to give a speech about homelessness you may want to bring charts and use facts and figures to tell about the problem. Your audience for the speech should help you decide which type of speech you will have to give.
Another factor to determine what type of speech you will give is going to be the subject. You will not want to give a persuasive speech to a group of business men and women who are there to hear about sales forecasts. You will also not want to give an informative speech to the same group of people who are there to hear about how you motivated yourself to become successful. The subject of your speech will help you to determine what type of speech you should be giving.
Knowing your audience and why they are there to hear you will go a long way to helping make your speech successful. Just remember the importance of knowing which type of speech you should give and you will be on your way to a successful speech.
