Beware of eBay Auctions!
My first experience at online shopping was at eBay, through it's auctions. I was seeing some amazing deals, particularly an electric guitar that looked so beautiful! Then I came across some old US coin lots for auction and the seller claimed to be a coin dealer, so I trusted this and put bids on 3 lots of coins.

Be cautious of websites offering free ringtones
It seems everybody these days is talking about new cell phones from Motorola's RAZR to Samsung's new Blackjack to Apple's new iPhone (or whatever it will end being called). In addition to having the latest cell phones, people also seem to want to have the latest ringtones to go along with it. The problem is that buying and downloading ringtones is expensive with most websites and/or cell phone carriers charging $1 or more per download.

Signs of a Scam
Signs of a Scam By William Cate Investors and the business community lose billions of dollars annually to swindlers. While Law Enforcement will take a complaint, they rarely investigate complaints that concern less than $100,000. Prosecutors rarely file charges in cases that involve less than $1,000,000.

Free promotional offers are sent to email boxes by the thousands daily. "How to" CDs and DVDs are a popular give-away ... but these free offers can become a costly nightmare.

If you receive an offer for a free promotional product, and all that is required from you is to pay "shipping and handling" ...

BEWARE ...

because the sender/merchant has now captured your credit card information and they can start a monthly autoship for additional products.

They can claim that by ordering their free product, you have opt-in for a membership in their program which entitles them to deliver additional monthly products and bill your credit card.

I know this, because it happened to me.

A free "how to" DVD (shipping & handling charges of $11.95) turned into a $108.95 monthly autoship.

I was so angry I was shaking!!

I carefully read through every email these guys ever sent me and nowhere could I find information about a monthly autoship. Nowhere could I find information about additional DVDs arriving at my door at a cost of $97.00 per DVD plus $11.95 shipping and handling charges.

It took me four days to resolve this mess .. phone calls to my credit card company, emails back and forth to the merchant. Finally, the threat of credit card fraud enticed them to reimburse me and discontinue the autoship.

Here's a little "heads up" for the next time a free offer arrives in your email box:

1) Read the fine print before you order;

2) Keep a record of all your email correspondence, especially the original offer;

3) If the merchant provides a toll free number, ensure it works from your area;

4) Get an email address for the merchant .. if you can't contact them, you don't stand a chance;

5) Your credit card company will NOT investigate the matter unless you CANNOT resolve it with the merchant. You WILL BE responsible to pay the first month's authoship if the merchant does not reimburse you. Only then will your credit card company investigate so no further charges are incurred.

In conclusion, if your "FREE" product is not a digital download, think twice before you order it.
